EarthBox: innovative gardening system (www.earthbox.com)
The patented EarthBox was developed by commercial farmers and proven in the lab and on the farm. Our maintenance-free, award-winning, high-tech growing system controls soil conditions, eliminates guesswork and more than doubles the yield of a conventional garden-with less fertilizer, less water and virtually no effort.
I saw this on Rick Bayless's cooking show a couple weeks ago. He was growing heirloom tomatoes on his roof in Chicago. Great for apartments, and houses with limited space, or poor soil. I want one!
It looks like the measurements of the box are almost equal to normal gardening boxes. I came across the EarthBox in a presentation of a new green house, they used the boxes on the roof for both growing their own vegetables and for preventing direct sunlight on the roof (which lowers energy usage).
I really hope the EarthBox is coming to Europe soon!
I've always wanted to get one of these... always found myself trying to reuse other items than purchasing new.
This seems like an ideal way to get people to start growing some of their own herbs/vegetables from home, and great for those that think they are too busy to tend to a garden or just don't have a green thumb. Hopefully it's also a good size for people in apartments as well, but I don't know for sure since I haven't seen exact measurements on the box.
